Book Club

The book club

We meet on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30pm in the back room. The group has been running since 2020 and has settled into something we are quietly proud of: a mix of new releases and overlooked classics, chosen by Nora and occasionally by members, with no obligation to have finished the book before you arrive.

Membership is £5 a month, which covers the room and a drink. Members also receive a 10% discount on all purchases in the shop, which tends to pay for itself fairly quickly if you are the kind of person who buys books in bookshops, which we assume you are.

We read across genres and periods — literary fiction, translated fiction, narrative non-fiction, the occasional poetry collection when we feel brave. We do not read thrillers, not because we have anything against them, but because the group has never voted for one. This may change.

The group currently has sixteen members and meets in a room that seats twenty-eight, so there is space for conversation and for the kind of disagreement that makes book clubs worth attending.

Currently at capacity

The book club is full. We are not taking new members at present, but we maintain a waiting list and places do come up — usually two or three times a year. If you would like to be considered, please add your name below.

Fill in the form below and we will be in touch when a place becomes available. The reading question helps us understand what kind of reader you are — there are no wrong answers, but specific ones are more useful than general ones.
