What to expect
The shop is small — about 800 square feet — and arranged to encourage browsing rather than efficiency. There are two reading nooks with chairs, one near the window and one at the back beside the events room. You are welcome to sit in either of them.
We have a kettle and we will make you a coffee or a tea if you ask. There is usually shortbread. We do not charge for any of this, on the grounds that a bookshop should be a place you want to spend time in, not a place you feel you should leave quickly.
We offer gift wrapping on request, at no extra charge. We can also order any book in print, usually within two to three working days.
Bewick, the shop cat, may or may not be present. He keeps his own hours.
Finding us
We are on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge, which is a ten-minute walk north from the city centre. The nearest bus stops are on Comely Bank Road (routes 24, 29, 42). There is limited on-street parking on Raeburn Place and the surrounding streets. We are not far from the Water of Leith Walkway, if you are arriving on foot from the Dean Village direction.
